Glen Lake Overlook
OVERVIEW: A walk along the shore of Glen Lake; then a short climb to a great view of the lake from above.
TOTAL MILEAGE: 3 miles round trip
ELEVATION GAIN: 200 feet
TERRAIN: Woodland trail
LOCATION: From the intersection of US Route 4A and VT Route 30 (Castleton Corners) go west on Route 4A for 1.3 miles to Creek Road (Hydeville). Lake Bomoseen Inn is on the corner. Turn right onto Creek Road, which becomes West Castleton Road, for 4.0 miles to the entrance to Bomoseen State Park. Continue around the curve to the left and, in a complicated intersection, choose the gravel Moscow Road. Go north on Moscow Road for 0.8 miles to a sign on the left "Bomoseen State Park - Glen Lake Block" and a driveway leading to a large, grassy field. Park in the field. Start your walk along the roadway leading south from the southwest corner of the grassy field.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Follow the roadway through two right-hand turns and pick up the blueblazed trail to the left. After skirting the lake for 0.5 miles turn left and take a bridge across a neck of the lake. Turn left again, scramble over a low berm, and continue on the blue-blazed trail, which shortly leaves the lake and climbs to the overlook. Return by the same route.
POINTS OF INTEREST: See Glen Lake from water level and then climb up for a bird's eye view. A great lunch spot.
