
Lefferts Pond Loop
OVERVIEW: This is a very pleasant leisurely walk around Lefferts Pond in Chittenden; cross wooden footbridges, past an old milldam, with a good chance of seeing a moose if you go early in the morning!
TOTAL MILEAGE: 2.3 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 100 feet
TERRAIN: Flat, fairly smooth terrain and trail surface.
LOCATION: From the intersection of US Route 7 (North Main Street) and US Route 4 east (Woodstock Avenue) in Rutland go east on Route 4 for 4.0 miles to Meadow Lake Drive (Sugar & Spice Restaurant is on the left). Turn left onto Meadow Lake Drive for 1.7 miles to its end at Chittenden Road. Turn right onto Chittenden Road for 2.9 miles where it becomes Dam Road. Continue on Dam Road for 1.4 miles to Wildcat Road. Bear right onto Wildcat Road for 0.9 miles to a gateway on the left. Turn left through the gate and proceed 0.5 miles to the parking lot. Park in the parking lot.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION: From the parking lot walk east, keeping Lefferts Pond picnic area on your right. Go over the old stone bridge and then approximately 0.5 miles to a T-intersection with the VAST snowmobile trail. Turn right at the T and go 0.7 miles to Wildcat Road. Turn right onto Wildcat Road and walk 0.5 miles on the road back to the gate. Turn right through the gate and walk 0.5 miles back to the parking lot.
POINTS OF INTEREST: Remains of an old lodge for employees of Central Vermont Service Corporation, and an old milldam.
