
Little Rock Pond
OVERVIEW: Visit one of the most beautiful and popular spots on the entire Long Trail.
TOTAL MILEAGE: 4.6 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 350 feet
TERRAIN: Standard trail; some uphill stretches
LOCATION: From the intersection of US Route 7 and Brooklyn Road in Danby/Mt.Tabor take Brooklyn Road east (National Forest Road 10) for 3.2 miles to a paved parking lot on the right. Start your hike near the sign board directly across the road from the parking lot.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION: Follow the Long/Appalachian Trail (white blazes) north for 2.3 miles, passing Lula Tye Shelter and the south end of the Little Rock Pond Loop Trail, and skirting the east side of Little Rock Pond to its outlet at its northern end. Return by the same route, or make a 7.5 mile loop hike by using the Green Mountain Trail.
POINTS OF INTEREST: The pond itself is the major point of interest. Hikers often stop here for a swim on a hot summer day. Several extensions to this hike are possible: the Little Rock Pond Trail, the Green Mountain Trail, the Long Trail North, and the Homer Stone Brook Trail all connect with your route near the north end of the pond.
