
Chittenden Brook
OVERVIEW: A pleasant woodland walk along the course of a pretty stream.
TOTAL MILEAGE: 3.4 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 370 feet
TERRAIN: An old wood road
LOCATION: From the intersection of US Route 7 (Franklin Street) and VT Route 73 East (Park Street) in the center of Brandon village, go east on Route 73 for 12.1 miles through Goshen and over Brandon Gap to a right turn onto Green Mountain National Forest Road 45. Go for 0.6 miles on Forest Road 45 to a trailhead and small parking area on the right. Park in the parking area. Start you hike on the trail that leaves the road at the south end of the parking area. (Note: In winter Forest Road 45 may be closed to cars by snow. You can park in a parking area at the intersection of Route 73 and Forest Road 45 and extend the round trip hiking distance to 4.6 miles and the elevation gain to 560 feet.)
ROUTE DESCRIPTION: The trail climbs gradually, most of the way paralleling Chittenden Brook, for 1.7 miles to Chittenden Brook Campground where it again meets Forest Road 45. Return by the same trail or by the Forest Road.
POINTS OF INTEREST: You can extend your hike on any one of several loop trails in the campground area including one to a beaver pond.
