PLACES TO GO :: D&H TRAILS

The D &H is trail on an abandoned railbed that runs from Castleton to Poultney and beyond. It is great for walking, running or easy fat tire bicycling.

There are good walks all over the Rutland Region, and some are much closer than you think! Begin with an exploration of Rutland City — there are several established loops. For a more country setting, try the Pittsford Trails, about six miles north of Rutland. Or try out the Rails to Trails route in Castleton — it's flat, smooth, and runs through some great country! This is just a sample of what's out there — for more walks, consult the Links page.

If you know of a walking area that is open to the public that you think should be on this page, please drop a line at contact@rapac.info.

Pittsford Trails

Castleton Railbed Trail: The Castleton Railbed Trail runs from Castleton to Poultney and beyond. It is a very flat, broad trail set on the bed of an abandoned railroad. Walking is easy, and some side spurs near Castleton State College offer some interesting woodland views. The easiest access to the Rail Trail is to take Rt. 4 or Rt. 4A to Castleton. Take South St, which is the second road (as you're heading west) onto the Castleton State College Campus. The trail head is about fifty feet past the entrance to the last parking lot on the right as you leave the campus.
